New Computer Setup

This guide will walk you through the steps to setup your new computer and make sure all default and manager requested applications have been installed.

Please make sure you have a reliable internet connection before starting this process. Many files will be downloaded during the process so refrain from using a data limited hotspot.

Instructions

NOTE: Our latest Security requirements have extended the new laptop setup process. Please allow 2 hours from the time your laptop is initially setup and logged in to download the necessary apps, updates and security patches from our server to become compliant with our system.

 

  1. Plug in the laptop and turn it on. Make sure you connect to a Wi-Fi network when prompted if not using a wired connection.

  2. Select your region.

     

  3. Choose keyboard layout.

     

  4. Add a second keyboard layout if necessary. A restart may occur after this page.

  5. If prompted to connect to a wireless network do so. On the next screen enter your Ameresco email address. As mentioned on the previous page. If you do not have your Ameresco email address and password stop here and contact your manager.   6. Enter your password.

     

  7. You will now need to setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). If you used a different method to setup MFA in advance you will only be prompted to accept the authentication prompt and can skip to step 17. 

     

  8. Download the Microsoft Authenticator App to your phone (recommended method). If you don’t have a smart phone choose “I want to set up a different method”, choose Phone/Email.

     

  9. On the phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app and add an account. Choose Work or School account. Click Next.

     

  10. Using the Phone app scan the QR Code.

  11. You will be prompted on the phone, accept the prompt.

     

     

  12. For the second method choose phone call or text and enter your phone number.

     

  13. Answer the phone call and press # or enter the code that was texted to you.

     

  14. Both methods have now been setup and confirmed. Click next.

     

     

  15. Your computer will now go through the various steps to complete the setup. While most are complted much faster, this can take up to 90 minutes on slow connections. There is an option to “Continue Anyways”, this will get you into Windows but many of the applications will be missing at this point and is not recommended.

     

  16. Once complete you will be logged into Windows. You will be prompted to set up Windows Hello and a PIN. Additional apps may continue to install in the background. Additional applications are available for self-install from the Company Portal app on your computer. Approval is required for some applications and can be requested using the above method.

Important: now that your computer has loaded you will need to open this guide on the new computer. Reboot. After restarting use Chrome or Edge to enter the site below in the address line and hit enter to load. Complete remaining tasks from your Ameresco computer.
